L3-37 Costume

“Could you have it done by the 10th?”

I was 3 weeks away from having my L3-37 costume ready. I wanted to bring it to my local theater on opening night May 25th 2018. But an amazing invitation was extended to me to bring it to the Hollywood Premier 15 days earlier!

Working off of only the film’s trailer and using a Funko Pop figure to determine the back of the costume I was able to construct my L3-37 costume in time. Still slightlly smelling of paint and plasti-dip I got to meet Phoebe Waller-Bridge the character’s voice and performance actress!

This was my submission for the 2018 Star Wars Fan Awards. It wasn't a finalist so I'm posting it here for Star Wars fans to enjoy. I got this idea from an interview with Phoebe where she described her audition process for L3-37 and not knowing what a droid was.
L3-37 was built over 3 months using only the trailer from Solo: A Star Wars Story for reference.

Version 2 of L3-37 premiered at the 87th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade 2018 walking alongside Lando, Han, Qi’ra, Beckett and Enfys Nest.

This journey building L3-37 over the past three months has been amazing! I've interacted with some of her creators and designers. She is a great character. This is by far the most complex and challenging costume I've ever attempted. I will be posting more pictures this weekend of L3. If you have any questions or want to contact me about this costume you can use the contact form listed at the top of the page.
